What is The Afro-Caribbean Cotillion

The Afro-Caribbean Cotillion is a non-profit project created for the sole purpose of giving back. The Afro-Caribbean Cotillion is in its 4th year and has succeeded in helping a number of young women gain the poise and knowledge needed to successfully navigate social situations and prepare for adult life. The vision of The Afro-Caribbean Cotillion incorporates a modern combination of the African and Caribbean rites of passages and values, creating an enriching and unique experience that emphasizes the importance of positive social interactions, showing respect for self and others and having increased self-confidence in an ever changing society.

The Afro-Caribbean Cotillion Ball is a formal event during which young women (ages 15 to 22), of African or Caribbean descent, are presented to the greater community. The Ball, taking place on April 9, 2016, is a culmination and celebration of the journey that these young Protégés have taken after receipt of training and guidance by volunteer Mentors. Afro-Caribbean Cotillion Protégés start preparing in January and receive mentorship and training in a variety of areas, such as refining social graces and etiquette, financial management, communication and presentation skills, health, arts, the law, and so much more. Protégés learn to prepare for job and college interviews as well as national and international travel; preparation that make up core elements foundation to this program.

Funding for this Program is generated through the generous donations of community investors such as yourself. The community plays a key role in the success and longevity of this important program. We are a community sisterhood who firmly believe in the potential of this program and have seen the positive impacts on program participants. We believe in the power of giving back by investing in our youth and hope we can count on your contribution this year.
